Proper Appearance
- Appearance is most important for this employee in a restaurant.
- You are the first thing guests see when they come into the restaurant so try and look nice.
- This position requires the employee to dress a little nicer than the other positions.
- A good smile goes a long way.
- Personal Hygiene is a must!

You must have a good greeting. This is the main
purpose of your position.
Proper Greeting
- Have a standard greeting that you use such as
“Hi, welcome to Chili’s. How many will be
with you tonight? Would you like smoking or
non?”
- Always smile.
- Make the guest feel that you are excited to see them.
You must be very quick to react because this is the guests’ first impression of the service in the restaurant.
Proper Promptness
- Get to the door as quick as possible when guests arrive.
- Seat guests as quickly as possible.
- Get tables bussed as quickly as possible.
- When on a wait, make customers aware of wait times as accurately as possible.
You must be able to communicate properly because there is a lot of people depending on you.
Proper Communication
- Be sure to let manager know when guests are becoming frustrated with the wait or if a problem arises.
- Let server’s know about an irregular group, handicapped person, or any other irregularities with a guest headed to his or her section.
- Tell the QA if a large group comes in at one time so he or she can prepare the kitchen to get busy fast.
You have a few other duties as a host.
Other Duties
- You are in charge of keeping the menu’s clean.
- In the case of Chili’s, you must keep an adequate amount of kid’s menus folded with crayons.
- It is necessary to keep things clean such as the host stand and the windows on the doors. This is the first thing guests see so it has to be nice.
